Civil Engineering is the second-oldest Engineering discipline after Military Engineering. Civil Engineering is a professional Engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of physically built works like roads, bridges, canals, dams and buildings. Earliest Civil Engineering works include pyramids in Egypt, Highways by roman engineers, Great Wall of China, Stupas in Sri Lanka, Qunat water management system which is 3000 years old and many more. The notable earliest Civil Engineering works include aqueducts, harbours, bridges, dams etc., built in several parts of the world. India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru used the terms Temples of Modern India while inaugurating Civil Engineering work, Bhakra Nangal Dam which facilitated the progress of India. These structures emphasizes the importance of Civil Engineer.

Today, the world is experiencing huge changes in technological revolution, population growth and environmental concerns. All these changes create unique challenges for Civil Engineers. The following decade, will be the most innovative, demanding and rewarding times for Civil Engineers.

The Department of Civil Engineering at SKUCET has excellent infra structure, experienced faculty and some of our faculty are pursuing Ph.D and we are striving hard continuously to improve upon the quality of education and to maintain its position of leadership in Engineering and Technology. We always work with the motto “Nothing can be achieved without genuine effort.” Our department has been conducting seminar/ conferences since its beginning to keep the faculty and students abreast with the latest developments in the field of technical education. We encouraged the students to participate in students fests, technical competitions, presentations, seminars and industrial visits to enhance the practical knowledge of the students. Am sure that the Civil Engineers of SKUCET will make the Nation proud.
